Best way to clean up bird poop inside a window?

OK, I know it sounds weird!

My husband and I are buying a condo that has been unoccupied for maybe 2 years. ItÂs for our son who is out of the country but will be attending medical school closer to home in the fall. ItÂs a 1960Âs era brick building. Birds have been making nests between 2 of the the windows and a decorative screen that is outside the window made up of fancy openwork bricks. The current owner is out of state and will not agree to clean up the mess but will take a lower offer instead.

The straw etc., will be easy to clean out: but the windows and sill are heavily coated with guano. IÂm thinking it may be cement like, not like mammal poop. ItÂs on the third floor so using a hose is out of the question. It has to be done from the inside.

Is there a cleaner anyone can recommend that dissolves bird poop?

What you have todo is scrape off as much as possiable. Scrub with hot soapy water, then prime and paint.

Well, there is a product sold in pet stores called Poop-Off that is designed for use with domestic birds.

I would soak paper towels in an ammonia and water solution, press them up against the poop areas and let them sit there for 1/2 or so. Them wipe off the poop with them.

Another idea would be to use a steam cleaner.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ammonia sounds promising. I figured we would nee to dissolve it with something. I will check out the pet store product too.

What kind of a steam cleaner?

A canister type steamer. Here is an example, but I can't vouch for it.

Here is a link that might be useful: Steam cleaner
