Cleaning a messy grout job

Sarah_21April 30, 2012

I had a "professional" come in and put in a granite vanity and a new backsplash. The granite came out great, but the grout job on the tile is not perfect (or close to it.) There are a number of areas where the grout looks like it needs to be cleaned up. The backsplash is a slate glass mix. It has not been sealed yet.

Any idea on how I can clean this up? Are there any products out there that I can use?

I would start by calling back the person who did the work and have them clean up their mess.

Not really an option. Long story.

I have a similar-sounding issue with the grout on my newly installed polished marble floor tile. The experts at the ~other~ tile forum suggested trying Grout Film Remover by Miracle Sealants. It's available for less from the orange store - online only (bummer). One reviewer commented that it 'Worked to remove grout from crevices in tile', which is the situation I have. I like that it's non-acidic. I haven't found it locally, nor have I seen anything similar on the bix box stores' shelves, nor at my local tile shop, so will be ordering a quart online today. Good luck with yours, and I'll report back on my experience.

Did you try a nylon scrub pad and plain water? It's worked for me before.
