Got a difficult stain out of my old formica counters

sameboatFebruary 28, 2009

I've lived here for 4 months and there was some sort of stain on my formica countertop. It looked like a coffee ring or rust stain. I tried Fantastick, windex, scrubbing, etc. Today I took a little bit of liquid dishwashing Cascade on a sponge and it worked! It wiped right away. I should have thought of that in the first place. Hope this helps someone.

I used to use bleach and pour it on the stain, wait a few minutes, then carefully wipe up, being sure not to get it on uopur clothes.

Don't use bleach! It'll discolor formica! I learned the hard way. See the other posts on this site about people harming their formica counters with bleach.

Ditto no no no bleach on formica. My current older countertops could take it but I had some newer formica in a previous home that bleach discolored.

Liquid dishwashing detergent is a wonder for cleaning difficult bathtubs or other surfaces that tend to collect a residue. I even keep a bottle in my laundry area.
