Cleaning grout in a pebble tile shower

shawnie1February 12, 2011

We have a shower that is natural pebble stone top to bottom. What will clean the grout easily without hurting the stone? I've tried scrubbing it with an ammonia solution, but it takes forever and the places we stand never get really clean. We have a little iron in our water that stains it and it's just a little dirty looking no matter what. I want to get it really clean before re-sealing it but only harsh chemicals do the trick and those can etch the stone. Help!

Have you tried Oxy-Clean, powder, 1 cup dissolved in a gallon of hot water? Wet the area good, sloppy wet, let it soak for an hour or two, keeping it wet with more of the solution. Use scrub brush and rinse well. This worked well on kitchen floor grout between large tiles.

Our first time around we used the wrong grout when all the construction pros told us 'this is the grout you should use'

We ended up tearing the whole floor out and doing properly.

We used a grout shipped to us from Canada and we love it.

The lesson we learned was when 'the pros' recommend something, ask to see a job they have already done.
