Keeping the sink area clean

ZengleFebruary 27, 2014

We are seniors at Twin Valley High School, located in Berks County, PA. We are currently enrolled in the course Engineering Design and Development (EDD). For this class we have to define and justify a problem and then set out to solve the problem by either innovating or inventing a device, creating a prototype and testing it.
We have identified a problem with sinks splashing water on the countertop when washing your hands and doing dishes.

If you could please help us justify this problem by filling out a quick 6 question survey, that would be greatly appreciated.

I filled out the survey even though it is not a problem for me. Unless you put a dish or your hand in the stream it should not be a problem. I don't even have a problem with the shallower sinks in the bathrooms.

If this is a problem for anyone, the water pressure is much to high and a new aerator may help.

Not only how strong the water flow is, there are other causes too.

The way a person washes his/her hands will make a difference in how much water is slopped/splashed on top of the counter.

Placement of soap container will make a difference. Soap container close to edge of sink and to the side away from water flow works best.

Put soap (liquid) on hands first before wetting, no dripping water on counter top while getting soap.
