Cleaning Non-Tilt Exterior 2nd Floor Windows

CassandraFebruary 21, 2011

I'm just curious how people clean the exteriors of 2nd floor old fashioned sash (ie. non tilt-in) windows. I've been in my 1913 home for three years. Last year I hired cleaners to do the work but I'd really like to know how to do them myself. I understand that you can raise the lower sash and hang out of the window to clean the upper sash, but this scares me. I also don't know how you can clean the lower sash properly; even with the upper sash being mobile, there are parts of the lower sash that my hands just can't get to. What I'd really like to do is have some kind of pole that reaches to the windows from the ground with a squeegee on the end, but I wonder whether this is feasible. Ladders are out for me. Does anyone have ideas? I'm really curious as to how people manage this.

Try Windex for 2nd Story. You just screw it onto your garden hose and spray. Only thing is you should remove any screens before using. Good Luck!
