tile rug in small bath?

michoumonsterMarch 19, 2012

Hi all,

I like the tile rugs that I have seen on this forum, but most of the baths with a rug have been pretty large. I was wondering if it would work for a small bathroom? would it make the bathroom feel smaller? Should i go for large format tiles to make it feel more spacious, or should i do smaller mosaic tiles?

My bath is only about 8x6. I know there are probably some design rules on this.

this is my current mood board for my small bath.

I was thinking of doing a tan bath cabinet, and white and tan subways, then basketweave flooring.. Would love your input or alternate suggestions on finishes! thank you!

Sarah Richardson did one in a VERY small bathroom. She thought it made it look like a "jewel box". It was very nice. Her logic was since it was a small space one could afford almost any material. Hers was more a water closest, toilet and sink. No other room!! Look up her Sarah's house pictures. I believe it was on the first house she did. She dug out a basement.

thanks for the advice! i checked out sarah richardson's basement bath and it is indeed small. looks like she made the entire floor sort of the rug by putting a border around it. thanks for the tip Arcy!
