I purchased a fountain made of polyresin, can I use acrylic

paint on this? Do I need to prime it?

Thought you all might know.

I would think you could prime it with a product like Kilz or Zinsser. I know you can paint plastic with primer and then paint. I think resin is a form of plastic. Check out these companies websites.
