Chinese New Year

nana2010_gwFebruary 8, 2013

I've been thinking of doing a table for Chinese New Year for a while, this is what I came up with. From 2013-02-08 (by Eye-Fi)

The napkins are made from a piece of fabric left over from pillows I made years ago.
I added a fork to the place settings,
because I would never be able to use chop sticks. From 2013-02-08 (by Eye-Fi)

This vase is metal, it has been in my family for years. From 2013-02-08 (by Eye-Fi)

My DD brought these lions back from her trip to Taiwan.
They were the inspiration for this table. From 2013-02-08 (by Eye-Fi) From 2013-02-08 (by Eye-Fi) From 2013-02-08 (by Eye-Fi)

Found these twigs in my stash.
I don't remember what I got them for.

Very, very colorful & since I don't know anything about celebrating the Chinese New Year, I cannot comment on the dragons & your vase ...but I think they SHOUT, Happy New Year! & the black & gold & red you've used in the linens & place settings fit 'oriental' to me. Candlestick & chopsticks ~~ seem to go hand-in-hand. Lotsa' celebrating going on @your home! TFS, nana! Jeanne S.

p.s. I was thinking, thank goodness for that fork! (if I were eating @your table)

Nana I think you really captured the spiritual
essence of the 'Chinese New Year'!
I taught in an International School and had many Asian children in my class.
Each year, their mothers would come in to do a Chinese New Year celebration with us

This tablescape is both beautiful and dramatic looking.
I love all the textures you used with the black damask tablecloth and gold runner along with the beautiful layering of color and different shapes of your dishes.
Your selection of flowers and their color make such a statement especially paired with that beautiful
Vase CP and dragon figures. (Great inspiration pieces).
Loved looking at this - All so lovely and different.

Nana, looks like you captured the spring festival with
this beautiful Chinese New Year ts. The lions are so
pretty and make a great statement. DD has good taste!
I so enjoyed seeing your layering on this setting.
Wonderful job!

Nice seeing the two vases w/flowers on this setting.
The cp snake vase is beautiful and you have some
fancy looking chopsticks! I'm like Jeanne, if I was
eating with you, would need that fork.LOL

I love the brightly colored Foo dogs that inspired your color scheme. The table is so festive with an Asian flair. It looks like the perfect place to celebrate the New Year!

WOW, Nana! I don't think anyone has done this 'holiday' setting before. How neat. You did a super job with it!
Those Foo Dogs are wonderful and love how they inspired your table.
I'll have to save one of your pictures and get it into our Forum's tablescape album.

Thank you everyone for your sweet comments.

Jeanne, I don't know much about Chinese New Year either.
I had to Google it. Red and gold are the predominant colors used.

Jane, I'm glad you liked my table. I think the colors used for this holiday are gorgeous, so bright and cheerful.
This is a joyful holiday.
Where did you teach school?
How wonderful to be able to learn about other counties customs first hand.

Punk I really enjoyed doing this table.
I was disappointed, tho, because the flowers died over night.
I can't use chopstick either haha.

Thank you, Fun. I'm glad you joined us here.

Karen, There are so many Holidays this month.
So, since DD gave me the little 'Guardian Lions' and some tea sets I decided to do a table for Chinese New Year.
I would be honored if you chose a picture of this table for
the Holidays Album.
