Cigarette smell in used car

michelle_phxazOctober 22, 2010

We just bought a 2006 VW GTI with leather seats, but there a slight lingering smoke smell. What is anyone's recommendation to eliminating the odor completely? Would Febreze or Oust sprayed on the carpet and mats help?

Thanks!

Fabreeze certainly wouldn't hurt. but I would recommend having the car professionally detailed.

I'd suspect the carpet, as opposed to the leather seats, is holding the odor more, but smoke gets on all surfaces so the whole interior needs to be thoroghly cleaned.

The residual odor from tobacco smoke will also be lurking in your heating and cooling systems. A professional detailer can get most of the smell out, but in my experience its very difficult to illiminate the problem entirely. Good luck!
