just talked to my sister that works for hyundai/kia, she told me hyundai is looking into buying jaguar from ford. hope she can get me discount then on a jag! cool!
No offense, bill, but that's a really bad idea at this time. Jaguar, with its years of tradition, scrabbling to return to the top tier of luxury cars after years of dodgy electricals, and Hyundai, a company which has built its reputation on decent cars that are cheaper than the competition? Doesn't look like a good fit to me.
maybe maybe not, ford needs to dump some of their excess, hyundai wants a upper end luxury devision like lexus, jag gives them a high end mark thats already established, jag dosent have the rep of lexus, mercedes etc. so they can discount the prices some, gets their foot in the door of the luxury car market without as much expense, and if it dosent work, jag could be sold to someone else.jag has name recognition, it would take hyundai years to establish that if they were to start their own luxury brand. and lets face it everyone loves a bargain, if you can purchase a jag for less than the competition, its going to sell. most people dont know ford owns them now or do they care.
I guess time will tell. The only thing I can think of is the Sterling, a Honda/Rover offshoot which provided the best of English engineering and Japanese styling. Three years later, it was history in the U.S. Not that Rover had anywhere near the stature of Jaguar, but ... well, it wasn't that happy a marriage.
English engineering and japanese styling???
Good heavens I hope you got that backwards.
no he got it right. That's why they don't make them anymore.
korean not japanese, the koreans are already good at combining american and japanese styling why not add english to the mix. word i get now is there may be more to this than just jag. who knows hyundai/kia needs a pickup, hhhhmmmm the new kia K-150.

no wonder fords in trouble, they sell all the good stuff in other countrys, and give us the junk.
We have our environmental extremists to thank for not having the Diesel engine, and I don't know who is to blame for us not having the new Ranger itself in this country.
yeh we dont get the good focus, or the falcon here either
Since Ford has found that the cost cutting made last season wasn't enough to turn the company to profitability, something more has to be done. It's embarrassing, too, since Toyota edged Ford from the no. 2 spot, taking it for themselves last month. You can bet that Ford will be examining every auto line that has not turned a profit, and Jaguar is one of those.
