Tiling around alcove bath tub

BBmc79February 22, 2012

We are installing a new alcove bathtub in a small bathroom. We will be tiling the three sides of alcove. My question is how far out in front do you tile? Do you stop at the front edge of the tub, or do you tile out further and inch or two toward the front, which would then mean you would tile to the floor of the front of the tub? We are using 3 x 6 subway tile

Tile out further than the tub and all the way to the floor--usually the width of the bullnose you select for your tile will work nicely.

It's a matter or personal preference, you can do either.

But it can sometimes dictated by how much wall space you have or the tub style that you have selected to install.

If using a vertical bullnose to contain the subway, most people will take the bullnose and just use that down the outside edge of the tub.
