Crown moulding in tiny powder room

nco_njFebruary 19, 2013

I am having my powder room renovated and am trying to decide on the size for the crown moulding. My bathroom is 3' 4" x 5' 4" with 8ft ceiling. Any thoughts on size, style etc is greatly appreciated.

What do you have in the rest of the house?

I have dentil moulding on most of my first floor. I have a very simple crown molding that is 1 5/8" in my 2nd floor hallway bathroom which is too small. I forgot that bathroom even had crown moulding. My house is a 1941 CHC with a large FR addition. I'm decorating / renovating it to be more transitional vs traditional. My PR is so small that I was limited with my sink options and found a contemporary wall mounted sink. (before my reno the door wouldn't open all of the way b/c it hit into the sink).

If the dentil moulding is not too big, I would use that. I would rather play with scale and use something a bit big than too small. In a powder room with a nine foot ceiling we specified the heavy cornice that was used on the rest of the first floor and it actually looked interesting.
