Battery corrosion

joe_mnJanuary 21, 2012

Kids battery wimped out. Was going to jump it but security showed up with booster pack. Hooked it up to +post on shock tower and car fired right up. Put meter on batt terms and could not get reading. Put meter on remote hot post and got good reading. Took off neg term and found lots of corrosion. Is it possible alt is working ok but poor cable connection was causing starting issue?

Pos battery terminal has clamp on cable end. Is obviously a repair clamp. Can get a new pos cable. I assume cable leads go to starter and fuse block. It's a 99 grand prix. Had a bad maf and car would die this summer. Drained battery trying to start it. Kid did it a few times till we changed out maf. Battery has been worked hard.

Checked a few cars at boneyard. I think both pos/neg cable ends have been cut. Orig cable runs down to starter /block on this car. Awkward. Put in new deco battery and car starts fine. Might get new cable when it warms up.
