Polished Chrome vs. Polished Nickel?

2LittleFishiesFebruary 11, 2012

I am curious what the differences are regarding looks as well as cleaning, wear, etc... Thanks!

I've read that polished nickel can be a more difficult finish to keep looking good if water gets on it, e.g., as with faucet. That side, I think there's a warmness to the look of polished nickel while polished chrome has a cool aura about it.

You are correct. Nickel has a warmer tone and chrome has a cooler blue tone.

I have polished nickel in my kitchen and it is more difficult to keep nice. I didn't know when I bought it but learned after the fact - nickel is a living metal (like silver). It will tarnish. It is also more difficult to clean than silver (silver polish isn't strong enough to clean it). I use a metal cleaner periodically on it.

I do prefer the tone of nickel but not the maintenance.
