Wooden buckets, pails or whatever you want to call them were a very popular item to decorate in the 1960's. I have done a few and still have one I've been meaning to paint :-) .
I don't think your bucket is any older than that.
They were popular to sit on your front porch or in the sewing room as a sewing basket. They came with lids, but the lids tended to split.
Worth? Not a lot, considering it's not antique and not well preserved....might get $5 from someone, but I doubt it.

It's cute, but no way was it painted like that in the early 1800s.
