Warm up time and tank life

Hi there. We recently purchased our first gas grill adn I have a couple of questions:

1) We have a cast iron grill top. I'm wondering how long I need to warm up the grill to get the best results?

2) I have 4 burners inside the grill. About how long can I expect a tank of propane to last me (assuming all 4 burners are on high)?

Warm up time is usually around 10 minutes.

Trying to determine how long your tank will last is next to impossible. The variables of the burners, what you are cooking, heat retention of the unit and if you burn off cooking residue make it impossible.

Suggestion - purchase and install a gas gauge!

Last summer I was grilling nearly every night and went through 2 tanks of propane. With the 4 burners you do not want to cook with all burners on high. Placing the meat over the center of the grill with those two burners on low and the outer burners at higher heat settings is preferable as you will experience less scorching of the meats.

Cook over lower temps for a longer period of time produces well done meats and cooking over high heat for a short period of time produces medium rare meats.

May I suggest that you season the cast iron grating before you start using it? If you take off the grates and wipe them down with cooking oil with a paper towel and then place them back on the grill with the heat on low for 30 minutes or so until they are blackened. This promotes less sticking of your foods while grilling.
