Cool Water Rinse = Shiny Hair?

sewhappy_2007February 26, 2009

I just tried a new hair color and saw a recommendation in the instructions to rinse the conditioner with cool water for more shine. I did make the final rinse cool and was VERY pleased with the shine. Now I am wondering if this is just the conditioner that comes with this product, or if it is always a good idea to make the final rinse with cool water. Getting my hair to shine is one of the main reasons that I use color to cover most of the gray.

When you rinse with cooler water, the shafts of the hair stay straighter and shinier. You should always do a final rinse with as cold of water as you can stand.

Sewhappy -- it is true about the cool water rinse flattening the hair surface, and I try to remember to do that every time I shampoo.

In addition to that, you may be seeing the effects of your new conditioner. I really like the Natural Instincts "Once A Week Color Treat" that came with my hair color.

Also, there are conditioners that you can buy that add shine to your hair. I can't recommend one because I already have very straight hair and don't use them, but I have seen them. Ask your hairdresser for a good shine product.

When I used to color my hair, I got a treatment called "cellophane" that made my hair shinier since it was damaged. This was back in the early '90s, so I don't know if they still do this, but there has to be some newer treatment you can get.
