Is the top header needed when framing?

the-tech-guyDecember 31, 2012

I was wondering if I need to use a top plate when framing the walls in my basement? It would be a lot easier and faster just to nail the stubs to the floor joists. I am using PT wood for the bottom plate.

The top plate is necessary as a firebreak.
