open vs. closed cell spray foam in crawlspace

churchieDecember 15, 2007

First time poster, I've been trying to answer a basic question, is it better to use open or closed cell in sills and concrete block crawlspace walls. I am concerned about closed cell being a vapor retarder, I've asked 4 contractors the same question and also queried buildingscience.com articles and can't get a definitive answer. I happen to think letting a foundation 'breathe' is a good thing.

If this is covered on another thread please redirect me, thanks for your help!

Not sure, but probably closed, since it won't absorb moisture.

Maybe there's a clue here:
