basement insulation w/ super tuff

dave-marylandNovember 10, 2008

is the super tuff product equal to some of the extruded poly products out there for insulating basement walls?

Current Plan: Building Science Model

-1'foam product XPS

-2"x4" studs with FG.

-dow 3/8in 4'x50ft (siding product) extruded poly on floor.

even thought about the OC siding XPS product as a cost effective option on the wall. will this supply enought moisture resistance for the Building Science model?

Thanks

Dave

Building Science says the most cost effective strategy for insulating a basement is using polyisocyanurate for the above-grade portion of the basement wall and XPS or EPS below-grade. (See link, scroll to research report 0202 figure 11.)
