Crawl Space Help Needed

like2hikeAugust 18, 2012

I live in the Atlanta area. My house has a crawl space that had a problem with water sitting on the dirt floor. I had a french drain installed around the perimeter of the crawl space. The drain has a slotted pipe covered with gravel to remove water from under the house. It seems to work well. The dirt floor is covered with a plastic vapor barrier.

Should this plastic cover the french drain? Should the plastic extend up the concrete block walls? Any suggestions?

Depends where the water is coming from. If it's running down the crawlspace walls or along the ground or is the result of condensation on the walls, then leave the drains uncovered.

(I'm assuming the drain is around the inside perimeter of the crawl.)
