How old is the chair?

KasmusApril 28, 2013

I don't know if it's from the 1970's or what. The previous owner didn't either. I don't know the name of the style, if any. Any ideas? I have other pictures too.

The form is a hoop-back Windsor chair; originals date to ca. 1810-1850.

That style is difficult to date because it's been in production almost continuously for a couple of centuries.

However, the really old hand-made ones have more dramatic changes of thickness on the leg braces, the back spindles are delicate, and the hoop back is more "elegant". ... look at some of the known museum pieces and you can see the delicate swooping lines of the old ones versus the way this one looks.

What you have is just a chair.
