Collecting Ideas for Basement (Mid Century Modern inspired)

Mama_ZAugust 8, 2011

The guys were here today -- first day of starting our basement finishing! We're in a new townhome (circa 2005) and the basement has been a storage area until now. Our house is about 1900 sq feet and we have an above-ground basement with very minimal light (one small window).

So today they started to put the frame up. We're doing a lot of built ins/storage space and have decided to divide the room into basically two rooms. There will be a wall with an arched cut-out in the middle. We plan on doing recessed lighting and a do-it-yourself acid stained concrete floor. Also: a half bath and small recessed wet bar on the opposite side.

I'd love to share ideas on paint colors, floor design, smart lighting, and extra things that would improve the environmentally friendly and modern aspect of the space.

Ok, so first question: is there such a thing as modern crown molding for that archway or do we just leave it alone?

Thank you for reporting this comment. Undo

We have lots of arched doorways in our home and none of them have any molding. I'm not sure they would look right with molding. A 90 degree angle on the drywall/plaster makes it look clean and nice with matte/flat paint.

What did you decide for flooring?
