New carpet smell

cheerful1_gwAugust 23, 2007

We had a wall to wall carpet installed 2 months ago. There has been a smell to it since then. I tried spraying it with Febreze, kept the windows open to air out the space, but nothing seems to work. Is the smell from the carpet, the padding, or something else?

Carpets outgas a lot. It's not healthy either. Google "carpet outgas" and you find a lot of information. I believe there's a way to speed it up. In the mean time, keep small children and pets off of the carpet.

(The reason I know this is because the office got new carpet installed and I was worried about the health effects. The search results were pretty scary.)
