How to verify that Basement Waterproofing is not broken

Rob FlemingMay 7, 2010

Hi:

We have a 2 year-old house with a basement that was waterproofed with j-drains around foundation and rubber/matting waterproofing. We have had flooding in the finished (which is very frustrating). You guys probably know the drill: no one knows for sure where the water is coming from. The waterproofing company insists that the waterproofing is fine and this is not their fault (which is hard to believe) and they keep coming out and caulk doors, grade away from basement door (they now say it is coming in through the basement door, which is not likely, but we are doing all they suggest to narrow down what the cause could be. Question: Does anyone know a way to determine for sure that the waterpoofing is working, is not cracked at some point, etc.?

Many thanks.
