Earthquakes and remodeling

noodlesportlandApril 10, 2007

hi- trying to find out more information about retrofitting a house with earthquake bolts -or ties-or whatever can be done to a house that is about 18 yrs old to make it more earthquake proof. This is my friends house and they have excavated they basement (daylight) and all studs and foundation are now exposed. Their contractor told them their house was fine (!) even though it was built before our new safer codes. I have done a search and know that there is an anchoring system. Just wondering if anyone has done this lately? Thanks! We are in the Pacific NW-near a major fault line.

You are more likely to find monkeys building a space shuttle in their backyard then this.
