It's an essential chair, perfect beyond description with mere words...
Seriously though, some kind of visual prompt would help.

Was hoping to get a prompt to upload picture before sending.

Here is a link that might be useful: http://s284.photobucket.com/albums/ll20/redbyyrd/

Turn of the 20th century late Victorian/neoclassical "mahogany" armchair, probably part of a 3-piece suit originally (Settee, armchair, rocker).
There may be some real mahogany in it, usually the urn-shaped backsplat and the crest rail, but the balance is often stained soft maple, including the rest of the frame and the legs.
If it were all solid mahogany it would be a very fine chair. The mixed-wood types were middle-class artifacts.

Yep....I found almost an exact duplicate in a 1910 catalogue, right down to the claw feet and urn-shaped splat. It was carved, instead of painted. Their whole line was made of birch, with a mahogany 'finish'. Even had your choice of plush cushions. The matched sets of three to five pieces were called "Parlor Suites". It's a pretty piece.
