candle lantern question

ashadrackFebruary 27, 2010

I was given this old candle lantern from an old neighbor. I wonder about it's age and origin. It's about 16 inches tall and has decorative tin looking, bent and formed stips that attache around a cetral lantern portion. It's made of a tin like metal and has a central chamber where the top half of a candle is protected from the elements and illuminated by a surrounding of glass. I've scanned the internet to see if there is anything out there that looks at all like it and haven't found a single thing. I'd like to clean it up but don't know if I should worry about ruining the original finish. Anybody have an idea? I could add a picture if that can be done somewhere on this site.
