Pls HELP identify this unique rocking chair

moscatodvFebruary 15, 2013

I was told this chair is over 100 years old. It's in GREAT shape and does not squeak or groan when I sit/rock.

Has anyone here ever seen a chair such as this?
Does anyone have any idea what the style would be called?

Any info would be appreciaed.

"Over 100 years old" -- probably not. "Almost 100 years old" -- that's more accurate. It looks like a Jacobean Revival chair from the '20s or early '30s. The geometric back puts it more in this time frame than in the earlier Jacobean Revival style. It is very sweet, looks comfortable, and has great charm -- and in a few short years, it WILL be over 100 years old!

I have no clue as to the age, but c'mimi is right about the style. It's not so much about the caning as it is about the spindle style. Here's another example....

Here is a link that might be useful: example
