What to do w/ incomplete chess game

vossnerFebruary 21, 2012

Long ago DH received an onyx chess game. Over time we have lost 1-2 pieces. Any suggestions on what I can do to

1) try to get missing parts or 2) sell the set I have? Your suggestions will be appreciated.

I'd buy a new set of chessmen and sell the old or use them here and there for little ornaments.

Missing pieces renders a chess set useless for play. The board may have value depending on its construction and age. New playing pieces can be purchased from USCF (United States Chess Federation). Pieces are sold as sets and not individuals.

What to do: Buy a set of pieces resembling the ones you have and keep the old pieces for spares. Competition sets contain 4 queens: 2 white and 2 black. It is possible for one player to have more than one queen before a game ends.

You will find that carved onyx pieces are expensive. You may find it more acceptable to your pocketbook to buy a lower cost set of pieces to put the board back into play.
