antique trip to Minnesota

wildroseiowa50February 16, 2010

Our Quester group is planning an antique shopping trip

to either Minnesota or Missouri. We have been to Stillwater before and we all loved it. Is there another

place as good as Stillwater for an overnight trip? If so

do you have any ideas about lodging and places to eat?

I mainly lurk over at the Garden Junk forum but thought

maybe some of you have some terrific ideas. I would

appreciate any help!

Well, the Brainerd/Crosby/Nisswa area of central Minnesota has a lot of antique stores; we have a lake place there, but I haven't had much of a chance to explore. There must be someone lurking here who can direct you to a good website. Maybe the Chambers -- try Nisswa, Brainerd and Crosby to start out with. Would advise you to wait until May; it's not much fun slogging through the snow and cold!!

Stillwater probably has the most bang for the buck with the huge concentration of antique stores all within easy walking. Plus it is charming! You might combine it with trips into St. Paul and Minneapolis (@20 minutes away). There are a number of good antique stores, consignment shops, and (my favorite) architectural antique stores in both cities. Hudson WI, right across the river, or further south Hastings and Red Wing MN also are fun places to shop with a number of antique stores.

Thanks for all the ideas - can't wait to go. Between
blizzards, no electricity for 6 1/2 days, etc. I am certainly ready for some fun.
