Basement Kitchenette

lotsofkidsJanuary 17, 2014

I'm trying to decide what to include in our kitchenette. So far we are going to do a sink, microwave, dishwasher. The question is whether we do a mini fridge/icemaker/filtered water dispenser or go for a full size fridge that has a water dispenser and ice maker. I already have a full size fridge in the basement storage room, but it's a basic fridge for storing milk and extra groceries (we are a big family). We honestly drink mostly water, rarely soda. We do plan to have parties down there as it opens up to our patio/fire pit/bench.

I believe the answer lies in the amount of space you want to devote and just what you plan to prepare.

Our basement is conventional style, not walk-out, but used for entertaining. We have a full kitchen (cooktop, wall oven, countertop microwave, full-size refrigerator, bar sink plus a wash sink nearby, ample cabinets) in conjunction with a bar. Total of 100 sq. ft. No icemaker and that was an oversite.

We prepare full meals there for large groups.

Hope this helps

If I had the room, I would probably do a small full-sized refrigerator. They tend to be less expensive and more flexible in terms of replacement.

No stove. I don't want a full kitchen in the basement.

No stove? so where do you cook? how far from the basement? good decision cause its not a nice idea if you cook in the basement, unless you have an exhaust fan and uses an air purifier to minimise the cooking smell. Use a mini fridge/ref instead for space saver
