I am thinking about purchasing this chair but would like to know a little bit about it before I buy. I want to know what type of chair it would be called and from what time period? Thank you to anyone who could help me out :)
Don't have an answer, but it is a lovely and interesting chair so why not buy it if you like it. Country Living has a section where one sends a picture, and they will supply the information if you cannot get it here.
At a guess, 1910-1925. It has the lightness and grace of Edwardian furniture, with traditional elements -- almost an Empire-revival style. What wood is it?
I'm going to take a look at it this weekend (hopefully). I emailed them and am waiting to hear back. I honestly don't have a clue about wood types but I'm sure I can find someone who does know and will update.
It looks like very loose interpretation of the medieval folding chairs ... often called a "Savonarola chair". It has the stave-shaped arms,.
It has a faintly Biedermeier look to it - check the construction carefully because that period had some excellent pieces.
If you like it and it's comfortable and sturdy, buy it.
