Cushman Colnial Armchair

temeryJanuary 14, 2011

I have an armchair that has a metal plate on the underside that says, This is a Cushman Colonial Creation, No 5 - 871

My questions are:

1) Can you tell me about the chair?

2) Age?

3) Value?

4) How best to take care of the chair (lindseed oil?)

Thank you!

The "Cushman Colonials" line of Cushman furniture was begun in 1933....so your chair is no older than that. I don't know when it stopped being made. It's very solid stuff and they always said they were "colonial reproductions" but they had a more modern feeling to me.
I grew up eating from a Cushman dining table and chairs. We kept the dishes in the matching china cabinet.
No....do NOT put linseed oil on it!! if it's really dirty clean it with mineral spirits and then wax with a good paste wax.
There is an arm chair on ebay for a "buy it now" for $199....which is not to say what it's worth, but only the asking price.
